Guilin in southern China is famous for ragged
Karst hills and scenic waters. And our
Maojian Chinese tea comes right from its heartland.
Karst rocks here have weathered and created nutrient-rich soil over the centuries, and Maojian Chinese tea plants extract the minerals that do a lot of good to your health.
None of our tea plantiations are higher than 300 meters, because the chill at higher altitudes could kill the tender and delicate buds. The best Maojian tea is made with tea buds instead of tea leaves.
Thanks to the mild climate, the tea trees can grow with enough rainfall and fog, which are both important to for the nutrients in the tea to accumulate.
Guilin has a annual average temperature of 18.8°C, so no frost is present to threaten the delicate shoots of this celebrated Chinese tea.
Funny note: the name 'Maojian' is said to have been given by Chairman Mao, who was surprised by the delicate fragrance of the tea.
